Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is well equipped with most modern and sophisticated equipment. The Labour Room has ample fowler beds, with routine teaching, training and OBG services also conducting special clinics such as high risk ANC and PNC, IUI, Cancer screening clinic and Family planning clinic on afternoon OPD hours regularly. The Tayee bhagya Yojane and Family planning services are being provided free of cost. MICU and Intra Uterine insemination – IUI centers have been made available.

It also includes special clinics like Infertility Clinic, M.T.P.Clinic, Gynaec Endocrine Clinic, Cancer Screening for Gynaecological malignancies and Antenatal Clinic.

Special health camps for women on themes like Antenatal care, Adolescent Girls health and Menopause and infertility are also conducted regularly.

The Department of OBG is functioning since the beginning of the college 1965-66,it was headed by Dr.B.B.Dhaded who was also the principal of the college. Postgraduate admissions were started in the year 1979.

Dr.B B Dhaded was succeded by Dr.G.Meenakshi, Dr.ParvatiDevi, Dr.5hakuntala.Banale, Dr.B.Sarvottam Rao, The Present HOD being Dr.Gangambika.M.Nisty.

We have a well organized department with experienced staff, a well equipped Labour room, Maternal Intensive care Ward (For care of high-risk pregnancies)and a well-equipped O-T for management of Obstetric and gynecological emergencies.

Our department is actively involved in the sphere of normal health of women. In this regard, we have conducted innumerable camps for screening of anemia in teenage girls & pregnant women, screening of cancer cervix and other malignancies in women.

Along with health checkup we have also delivered lectures on teenage health & hygiene, antenatal care, care & problems of perimenopausal & postmenopausal women.

Among the innumerable camps the notable ones include the following.

1. Ultrasound camp at Sangameshwar Hospital under the guidance of HOD Dr.Parvatidevi Patil

2. Health checkup camp for menopausal women under guidance of HOD Dr.Shakuntala Banale.- 26,27,28, Jan-2002.

3. Health checkup camp and visual aids for Adolescent girls under the guidance of HOD Dr.Shakuntala Banale. -26,27, Jan -2004

4. Camp for infertile women under the guidance of HOD Dr.Gangambika.M.Nisty.

5. PAP Smear screening camp in the year 2002 at Sedam, Hebbal, Raichur(Shakti nagar)

We regularly conduct CME's involving our staff, postgraduates, Gynecologists, practicing in the city & also from neighboring places like Shahapur , Yadgir, Humnabad, Bidar, Raichur. In association with the local OBGYN Society many Lecture series are conducted by the department conducted, thus contributing to the updating of knowledge and improving our ability to deal with the various aspects of women's health care.

We have conducted the prestigious international college of Obstetrics & Gynecology sponsored CME.

We have also organized satellite conferences down linked from Hassan, Baroda, Gandhi Nagar which have provided wealth of information for our delegates literally at our door step (without having to travel to distant destinations).

The department has organized three state level conferences at Gulbarga

1. 1990 at M.R.Medical College, Gulbarga with Dr.R.J.Tanga as organizing Secretary.
2. 1998 at Basaveshwar Hospital, attached to M.R.Medical College with Dr.Gangambika.Nisty as organizing secretary.
3. 2014 the recently conducted one being the silver jubilee conference of Karnataka state OBG Association which was conducted in the Gulbarga University campus with Dr.Gangambika Nisty as KSOGA President organizing chair person, Prof & HOD of OBGYN Dept. M.R.Medical College, Gulbarga. Dr.Meenakshi.Devarmani & Dr.Rajshree Paladi as organizing secretaries.

The department conducts regular undergraduate & Postgraduate teaching activities. The staff members & postgraduates have actively participated in state level & national level conferences in the form of posters & paper presentations & given lectures as faculty.

• The initially intake in the year 1979 was 4 M.S seats and 2 - Diploma.

• The presently the intake for PG -MS, Diploma Seminar the same as mentioned above.

Infrastructure:

• Lab: facilities in the department lab includes for performing hemoglobin estimation by manual methods, determination of blood grouping & Rh typing examination of the vaginal seuetion under microscopy & bedside card test for performing urine pregnancy test & for performing bedside Blood & Urine Examination.
